Houseparents (some together with their own families), live with, and care for the children within each family group,
where special emphasis is placed upon orderliness and a reassuring routine.
With each family group having space to develop its own particular character and atmosphere,
the children soon become settled and gain security and confidence which enables them to experience the social benefits of sharing with,
and caring for one another. A conscious community spirit is encouraged and each child contributes by helping with the daily household tasks.
While children experience the more personal aspects of relationships within their own family groups, there are also many opportunities for social interaction within the whole community
Holiday Care And Respite Facility
Some of our children are not able to spend their entire holiday at home with their parents or carers. In these circumstances the school will consider offering a holiday care service in addition to their education placement.
At the core of the planning of the holiday periods for the holiday care children is the conviction that these children should be offered at least as fulfilling,
meaningful and enjoyable a holiday as those who return home to their parents or carers at the end of term. This is achieved by extending the standard of term-time care into
the holidays and supplementing this with regular outings or longer trips appropriate to that particular group of children.
Health Matters
Parents or guardians are required to provide the school with details of their child’s medical history. A simple form is provided for this. Children will remain registered with their local GP. The School Medical Co-ordinator is responsible for liaising with other health professionals and supervising all internal medical arrangements.
It is also our practice to have our children visit our medical advisor, a consultant practitioner of anthroposophical medicine who is also a fully qualified doctor to advise us on the diagnosis and
treatment of certain developmental problems children may experience medically, socially, emotionally or educationally.
We have found such advice to be of great value and we would ask parents’ consent to treat their child with the recommended homeopathic remedies and other therapies should the need arise.
An osteopath visits the school to see and give treatment to certain children.
Dental Treatment
The School will only arrange for emergency or orthodontic treatment. Parents are therefore asked to ensure that their children regularly attend a dentist during the holidays.
